GALLERY RICHTER
GALLERY RICHTER
Santanyí in the southeast of Mallorca has long been known for its vibrant gallery scene. Since 2025, Gallery Richter has also enriched the cultural offering of the town. Behind the gallery are Petra and Oliver Richter, who present international contemporary artists and have created a space for contemporary art and creative exchange.
The gallery also reflects a long family tradition in the arts. The Richter family from Dresden has been artistically shaped for generations, particularly in the fields of painting and sculpture. Petra Richter herself has been working as an artist for over 30 years and worked in Hamburg, Berlin, Potsdam and among other places.
An important inspiration was her great-cousin, German artist Helmut Braig – painter, sculptor, graphic artist, filmmaker, and author. From an early age, Petra Richter developed a close connection to art that has accompanied her to this day.
The Artist, Petra Richter
Art full of movement and emotion – Petra Richter. Born in Hamburg, shaped by childhood years in Liberia and Zimbabwe, Petra Richter found her first inspiration in the colors of nature and the magical sunsets of Africa. Her later life as a Lufthansa flight attendant opened not only the sky but also the world to her. Cultures, landscapes, and encounters have remained part of her artistic language to this day.
On Mallorca, her adopted home, these experiences have flowed into her painting since 2006. Her works are more than images – they are emotions in motion, captured in vibrant colors, structured layers, and expressive forms.
Whether in the dynamic Mediterranean Sea series, the poetic flower abstractions, or the sensitive charcoal portraits: Petra Richter's art thrives on contrasts – stillness and energy, structure and freedom, observation and emotion. She describes her philosophy in one word: Pura Vida – a way of life that is palpable in every one of her works.
With their own gallery, the couple finally realized a long-held dream. Drawing on their international network, they brought together numerous artists for their concept. Today, Gallery Richter presents works by artists from Germany, the island, and abroad.
In the bright rooms of the gallery, new exhibitions are presented regularly. Vernissages and personal encounters with artists make the space a vibrant meeting point for art enthusiasts, collectors, and visitors from around the world.
Oliver Richter
Gallery Richter is not just a place for contemporary art, but also an expression of a long family tradition in which creativity, design, and cultural engagement play an important role.
The connection between art, design, and entrepreneurial spirit is also reflected in Oliver Richter's biography. His family comes from Dresden and was connected to the city's history for generations. Family members contributed to the design of one of Germany's most famous Baroque buildings – the Dresden Zwinger – until 1963, thereby shaping the city's character sustainably.
Oliver Richter himself worked in the sports sector on Mallorca for many years. In Son Bugadelles, the well-known CrossFit box "Crossfit Mallorca," now Choice Training Club, was created under his involvement. Beyond that, he gained extensive experience in consulting, sales, and real estate development, and served as an advisor to the international art platform Artmo for an extended period.
His affinity for art was further demonstrated through managing the gallery of a close friend – an experience that deepened his passion for contemporary art and ultimately contributed to the development of today's Gallery Richter.
